Just For Young People

We offer programs for young people from birth to young adults. Wauna Federal Credit Union is a leader in financial education and helping youth become prosperous, savvy adults. We offer presentations and individual mentoring to teach teens and young adults how to use financial products such as savings accounts, checking accounts, auto loans and VISA cards in a safe environment and the importance of credit worthiness.

The Board and Staff of WFCU feel these are great programs in which to learn the lending process. Many young people get bombarded with "Pre-Approved VISAs" and similar types of solicitation programs. And, before they know it they are thousands of dollars in debt. If they were taught what to watch for in these tempting solicitations (like rate changes, fees, etc.), how to budget, and prudent borrowing habits, they would learn how to develop the excellent credit needed to serve them well in their future.

Future Fortune Club for young adults and

Jump Start, a teen money club

Each member of Jump Start and the Future Fortune Club will develop a relationship with the employees at their local branch. They will receive financial mentoring or attend classes in Deposit Accounts, Checkbook Balancing, Budgeting, Credit Score Analysis, and How to Buy a Car. We also offer How to Buy a Home and Investment Basics for more advanced members. Another requirment of the clubs are each young adult or teen must have a source of income.

Once the members have learned about financial products and taken time to know the credit union staff, they will have the opportunity to gradually learn how to use savings accounts, checking accounts, auto loans and VISA cards on their own in a safe environment that teaches financial success.

Federal Student Loans
Federal Student loans are one of the smartest ways to borrow for college. The rates and terms are extremely reasonable making them a VERY attractive college finance option.

WHO CAN APPLY?
All post-secondary students are eligible to apply for federal student loans, regardless of family need or ability to pay! (INTEREST MAY BE TAX DEDUCTIBLE)

EASY AS ... "1, 2, 3"
1. Contact your high school advisor to get information on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid OR... apply over the Internet at www.fafsa.gov.
2. Submit your application and wait for results.
3. Once you receive your results, contact your college's financial department for further loan processing.

Student Checking Accounts
Wauna offers two very attractive Checking account options. You may choose either Premier Checking, our dividend earning account, or save big each month with Classic Checking, our low-fee checking account. For more details click on "Checking" in the Accounts section of the side bar to your left.

Free Services
Our Check Card offers convenience and safety. The check card provides you with FREE access to the funds in your Savings/Checking account 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

WFCU's Phone Banking and Online Banking services provide 24-hour free access to your accounts from any touch-tone phone or Internet computer in the world.

Savings Accounts
Share Advantage Accounts can be opened with a $5 deposit. This is a basic savings account which establishes your membership at WFCU. There are no access restrictions, which makes it an ideal tool to place funds for your basic savings needs, overdraft transfers, and availability in the case of an emergency.

Certificate Accounts are available to fit your future financial needs. Minimum deposit requirement is only $500, so even small investments earn the highest possible dividends. Yet your investment and the dividends are guaranteed through the life of the term.

Loans
Wauna Federal Credit Union wants to assist young adults in establishing good credit and provide them with a safe means in which to learn about the lending process. Here are a couple of options available:

SHARE SECURED loans are also a good source for new borrowers. If you have had the opportunity to build a savings, you can use that as security for a small loan, such as a Visa Classic card at an excellent rate.

STUDENT VISA is another good loan product to build credit. Students can use it to purchase needed school supplies and take a couple of months to pay it off, making it easier on the budget and building credit at the same time.

Wauna & U Kids Club

Wauna Federal Credit Union's Youth Saving Accounts allow children to begin earning dividends on their first $5.00. It is important to teach our children the value of saving money and our Youth Account is an ideal program to start out with.

Annual Coloring Contest
Be sure to mark July 1st on your calendar to stop by the branch nearest you to pick up an entry form for the Annual Coloring Contest. We always have great time with this contest and the participation has been wonderful. The best part is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each age category receive a cash prize.

The Welcome Baby Program

We appreciate the families of our membership and understand the importance of getting a child's savings account started for "later in life" expenses (e.g. education, auto, etc.).

We will provide your youngest family member with a Youth Savings Account and a piggy bank for saving. We will also give you a commemorative gold dollar coin from the year your baby is born (starting in 2006).
